19th Century Photographic Process
Today (27 December 2025) I was able to drive up to Lac Alouette in Golden Ears Provincial Park near Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. I was there for the purposes of trying out Zebra dry plates in my Toyo 45 AII camera. Now this time of year the sun doesn't perform as
it does in the summer with long days and high angled brightness filling the sky. As it was, the sky was pretty blue for a change, because we've been socked in with a lot of rain and clouds for weeks. The sun
it does in the summer with long days and high angled brightness filling the sky. As it was, the sky was pretty blue for a change, because we've been socked in with a lot of rain and clouds for weeks. The sun
broke in - here was my chance to finally test out these glass plates.
Now I just have to find some time that works to process them in a darkroom. First image of the mountains at the end of the lake f/64 @ 5 seconds, ISO 03. Light measured with my Sekonic L-608 light meter.
Second image (the Zebra Holder allows for two plates), was of a bubbling brook emptying into the lake. It was under open shade and I gave a one minute exposure at f/22. Here is a video segment from the outing, stay tuned for results ...
